Vieques has a small but thriving art scene. Warm weather , beach and topical scenes tempt many artists from the North to winter on Vieques. There are several galleries, and occasional displays of local artists work at the museum and other venues.
If you are an artist considering coming to Vieques, we hope that you also can find inspiration from the abundance of light, colors and vistas, as well as unusual flowers and vegetation. Please note however that you should bring all your own supplies as it is difficult to get art supplies on the island (with the exception of mineral spirits which you can get at a local hardware store and which you are not allowed to take on an airline).
Ellie Harold, one of the owners of Casa Violeta, is one of the local artists. You’ll see a lot of her art in the house, and more at her website.
Other local galleries include Gallery Galleon, Siddhia Hutchinson, and the local museum often has exhibitions as well.
